How Hip-Hop Is Celebrating Father’s Day

Father’s Day landed on Sunday (June 16) and, par for the course, a flood of emotional posts are inundating social media.

From those that have misplaced their fathers to those that are in a position to be with them in individual, a laundry checklist of Hip-Hop artists are paying tribute to the boys of their lives who molded them into the folks they’re at present. Pioneering rappers like Jimmy Spicer—whose 1980 single “Adventures of Tremendous Rhyme (Rap)” was one of many earliest recorded Hip-Hop songs—and Biz Markie had been commemorated in Instagram posts shared by their family members.

Ice T, Naughty By Nature’s Treach, Dame Sprint, Yelawolf, Chika, Sleepy Brown—who celebrated generations of Browns, together with his father and Brick founder Jimmy Brown—Jurassic 5’s Chali2na and Model Nubian’s Lord Jamar had been only a handful of individuals celebrating fathers.
