Democrats introduced the creation of the Congressional Hip-Hop Energy and Justice Activity Drive on Wednesday (February 14). Representatives Jamaal Bowman, Hank Johnson, André Carson and Delia Ramirez led the cost with help from the Black Music Motion Coalition.
“Black Music Motion Coalition’s mission is to work with enterprise leaders and lawmakers to make the most of the music trade’s affect to influence federal insurance policies that deal with racial and social justice,” BMAC co-founder Willie “Prophet” Stiggers stated. “The RAP Act is only one instance of how aligning BMAC’s efforts in tandem with the Congressional Hip-Hop Activity Drive is a pure extension of Black Music Motion Coalition’s work supporting options to mass incarceration, justice reform, and financial hardships disparately impacting marginalized communities … BMAC appears to be like ahead to centralizing our vitality with the first-ever Hip-Hop Energy and Justice Activity Drive to activate laws that protects the Black group.”
Bowman stated he wouldn’t be a congressman with out Hip-Hop, which was why it meant a lot to him to launch the duty power. The duty power aimed to work with members of the Hip-Hop group to enact significant laws.
“Hip-Hop has ingrained itself in our tradition and constantly referred to as upon us to battle for civil and racial justice,” Bowman stated. “Hip-Hop is why I help the motion for reparations, an finish to discrimination and company greed within the housing trade, and entry to healthcare and financial alternative for everybody. That’s the reason I’m proud to face with my colleagues in bringing the advocacy and beliefs of Hip-Hop to Congress on this second and proceed our pressing requires peace and justice the world over.”
The Hip-Hop Caucus backed the Congressional Hip-Hop Activity Drive along with BMAC. The nonprofit’s CEO Rev Yearwood Jr. believed the duty power would assist deal with points disproportionately going through Black, Latino and Indigenous communities.
